THOSE WERE THE DAYS
9th April 2012
Middlesex Senior Cup Final (@ Uxbridge)
HRBFC 2 (Simmonds, Tarpey) Wealdstone 0 Att; 499
Craig Ross; Lewis Ferrell (Joe Turner, 76’), Paul Johnson, Billy Jeffreys, Dean Inman, Josh Huggins (Tom Hickey, 82’), Nathan Collier, Karle Andrews, Dave Tarpey, Jamie Simmonds, Esmond James (Joe Bennett, 61’).
Unused subs; Neil Jenkins, Clayton Murray.
The 119th Middlesex Senior Cup Final was never a classic given the wet conditions. Neither side dominated in the first half, with chances at a premium. Tarpey and Simmonds both had chances, but Tarpey fired wide, whilst Jones tipped a Simmonds shot over the bar.Early in the second half Richard Jolly had two opportunities, Ferrell and Ross blocking the efforts away. It took until the 73rd minute for Hampton to take the lead. A Collier cross from the right wasn’t cleared properly and the ball landed at Simmonds’ feet and he struck the ball past Wealdstone’s keeper Jones. Ten minutes later a long clearance by Inman was allowed to bounce in the penalty area, Tarpey latched on to the ball and hit a volley on the turn.
