Posting early, on our way to Hartlepool!
THOSE WERE THE DAYS
13th January 1962
Surrey Senior League
Malden Town 0 Hampton 2
Fossick, Harris
Joe Andrews; Ivor Griffin, Roger Blackmore, Peter Jennings, Tony Carroll, Peter W Jennings, Jakie Cooper, Alan Earl, Brian Fossick, Jim Allard, Tommy Harris.
Hampton’s victory at Malden Town brought to an end the home team’s unbeaten league run. The first twenty minutes were relatively even, but then Blackmore started the move that led to the first goal, finding Allard with a through ball, his neat pass was finished off by Fossick. Five minutes later Hampton scored again, again it was Allard the provider with Harris the scorer. Just before half-time, Malden were awarded a penalty by Referee R W Summers. However, much to the delight of the Hampton supporters, Andrews brought off a spectacular save. During the second half Malden’s forwards attacked incessantly but found the tall frame of Andrews in the way, picking balls out of the air or diving at the feet of the oncoming forwards.
