Joe Andrews; Derek Edwards, Dennis Bird, Peter Jennings, Ron King, Don Bevan, Ron Griffin, Ken Merry, Mike Payne, Lance Wintle, Mervyn Bines.

Hampton’s first game in the Spartan League ended in a 3-3 draw. The Surrey Senior League Champions had recruited a number of new players; Wintle (Walton & Hersham), Payne (Feltham), Merry (Southall), Edwards, moving up from the reserves and Bines. Payne headed in Hampton’s first from a Wintle cross in the 15th minute, in the 32nd minute Merry scored, when Manor’s keeper, Paisley, failed to hold a Griffin cross. Bowden got one back for the visitors but Wintle restored the two-goal cushion in the 62nd minute. Bowden then converted a penalty after a handball and in the last minute, Bevis equalised for the Manor.

Went off to play for K's in 66. Happy days. Lance Wintle was my teacher at Rectory for a year. Got £3 in my boot first game for K's.

I sometimes get a personal chauffeur to matches when the club car’s in the garage. They’re called Mr Uber.
