Nothing in today’s newsletter regarding ground development works.

It is beginning to look like we will have to play away for the start of the season with its financial ramifications.

I assumed we were doing that anyway? It was certainly being mentioned at the last couple of home games. Does all seem a bit poor though.

By the way, I don't blame Louis for not having any news about the pitch to impart in today's newsletter. He can only print officially sanctioned stuff.

All seems rather rushed to me. Obviously by the time we got planning permission most of the companies who sort out artificial pitches were probably booked in. However we have decided to go ahead with it this summer. Most things I read say it will take a minimum 12 weeks. Which if it had started today that would have meant 28th August was 12 weeks away. I can’t see the league being happy with us switching too many fixtures so we’d have to find another ground to play at.
This could end up all very messy come August/September time.

If I remember rightly we had one season in the early/mid eighties when we had to play all our friendlies away and possibly our first few league games too due to the pitch having some kind of overhaul. I know it stayed grass though! 1982 possibly? I'm sure Les or Tony might remember this.

I presume that the current pitch has had no work done on it so it could not stage any game?

From what I could see, the grass has been left to grow so very unlikely any work has been done.

Got me stumped at the moment. Looked back at old programmes but no mention of why we started games away but guessing it was because we relaid the pitch and it wasn't quite ready.
