The Beavers opened their 2018/19 season with a line-up, including the substitutes, of which only one starter, Dundas, had previously played for the club. New manager Gary McCann had brought in a completely new squad of players during the summer – mostly, it has to be said, from his previous club, Hendon. Hampton got off to a good start on a hot and sunny afternoon. In the 3rd minute, Dickson worked an opening for Joseph, who strode forward and struck a powerful shot past Slough’s keeper, Jack Turner. Dundas had an effort turned away by a defender and Joseph had a goal-bound shot saved by Turner. Slough levelled in the 25th minute, James Dobson’s deep cross found Warren Harris at the far post. Slough dominated the rest of the half without adding to the score. In the second half both teams went close, Dickson and Dundas for Hampton and Chris Flood and then Scott Davies with a free-kick that seemed to have the beating of Lovelock, but was denied by a flying save. A reasonable start for a new manager.
