It was always going to be a tough ask for Hampton, already 2-1 down from the first leg, to seize the Middlesex Senior Cup from the Amateur Cup holders. Hampton were an Athenian League Division 2 side whilst Hendon had finished fourth in the Isthmian League. Hendon had beaten Staines Town, Borough Road College and Enfield to get to this stage, whilst Hampton had accounted for Kingsbury Town, Hounslow and Ruislip Manor.
Hendon and Hampton both fielded the same line-ups as in the first leg played at Beveree a week earlier, Farren scoring for the home side. Hampton had an excellent chance of drawing level with a goal in the 20th minute, Sperling, put through by Allen had his shot parried by Hendon’s keeper, John Swannell (who had started his football career as a youngster with Hampton). Two minutes later following a corner, partially saved by Whiteaker, was headed in by Tony Bass. Unbowed, Hampton got ‘stuck in’ Sperling clashed with Swannell, whilst Wenlock and Gary Hand were having a ‘difference of opinion’, Mr Harrison decided none of the events were worth a booking. Early in the second half Whiteaker made another save, from Tony Bass, Minor helping out by kicking the ball off the line. Hendon then made the game safe with two goals in a two-minute spell. Rod Haider scored after the ball rebounded to him off Whiteaker, then Bobby Childs was on hand for a tap in for the last goal.

That's it for this season's articles. Start again in July!
