Thus far and no further for the Beavers in the F A Trophy who just can’t quite get into the quarter-finals. Hampton probably thought that they had a decent chance to get past ‘The Vics’ but it wasn’t to be on a windswept night in the North-West. The loss of Ruby, carried off on a stretcher, early on (reminiscent of Darren Deegan at Hereford in 2001/02) was a major blow. Nathan Woolfe scored twice in the first half; his first, a well-placed shot in the 15th minute, the second, a wind assisted drive from 25 yards. Despite having the wind at Hampton’s backs, in the second half it was the hosts who scored again. The wind had an affect again, this time a cross from a corner held up in the wind and dropped at the feet of Wayne Riley. Tarpey got Hampton back into the contest taking advantage of a deflected pass. Ben Hinchcliffe (a great northern name!) defied Tarpey twice in Hampton’s best spell. Unfortunately, a fourth goal put the result beyond doubt, Kyle Armstrong with a penalty. Hinchcliffe still had a bit of work to do, saving efforts from Tarpey and Inman. ’Vics’ might have had a fifth in the dying moments of the game, but Ross pulled off a diving save.
