ALAN SIMPSON DAY

On Saturday, we will pay tribute to ‘Mr Hampton’ at our home game against Hornchurch

Alan was one of the greatest British comedy writers, but also Club President for 50 (FIFTY!) years. During that time, he was integral to the fortunes of our football club.

We’ll be paying tribute to Alan in the run-up to Saturday’s game at the Bev and on the day. If you have any stories or memories of a Hampton legend, please email seb.white@hamrichfc.com

And don’t forget to get your ticket in advance for what should be a special day at the Bev

I'm not sure how you could find out but it would be interesting to know if there has been a longer serving President of any football club in the World.

A quick google search finds Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa (Porto) listed as the longest with 41 years but that is presumably only looking at the top levels.

Whole squad fit for tomorrow except one. Yes, that’s right.

1-0 down on 19 minutes. Hornchurch dominating the ball and we’re struggling to muster any clear cut opportunities.

Terrific comeback from us, we showed some real resilience to retrieve a point today, against a very decent side. Having said that, Hornchurch must be absolutely kicking themselves for missing absolute sitters in both halves.

That was a crazy finish! Two goals in added time to earn an unlikely point, an own goal and a rare strike from Alan Massey. The Hornchurch manager will be spitting feathers as his side should have been out of sight long before the end but didn't press home their first half advantage. I thought for the first thirty minutes we were poor. From the kick off Hornchurch hit the bar, the ball ricocheting of new keeper's Maguire's shoulder onto the the bar. They then missed a couple of easy chances before hitting us on the break after 19 minutes. Dowse won't be happy with the defending allowing a long clearance from hands from their keeper to bounce unchallenged. Their second after 29 minutes was again on the counter from our corner when we slow to react and within a couple of passes the ball was in our net.We knew they would be strong and direct but couldn't get close enough in midfield or stop the crosses at source,. Attack and midfield were too far apart. Vaz came closest for us bring a good finger tip save but our lack of goals remains a problem when we go behind. Hornchurch sat off a bit in the second half and whilst we had more of the ball we didn't work the keeper anywhere near enough. Hornchurch had a great chance to go three up when clean through but the shot went thankfully wide. I couldn't see where a goal was going to come from to be honest and then we got a break when Kiernan's good cross was toe-poked past his own keeper by Gibbs in the 91st minute. Looked to be a consolation but suddenly we had the momentum and from a corner Massey got onto to a loose ball in the box and steered it home for 2-2 in the 95th minute. That goal just keeps us ahead of Farnborough who also came back for a point after being two down at Maidenhead. Happy Beavers at the end but we need to start more on the front foot and find some goals from somewhere.

Hurrah! Showed fantastic character. Well done, everybody.

First half was so frustrating though. I’m not anti-long ball when it works. But it doesn’t work for us. Too many players trying to play 60-yard worldies over the top to run onto. Not working. Hasn’t worked all season. Occasionally we’ll get a throw-in in their half, but that’s about it.

Harry Thomas gets it. Whenever he gets the opportunity, he carries it forward a good ten yards and makes a pass from there. We look good only when we build up overloads with short passes.

Defensively, we’ve got to stop teams running at us, get in their face a bit more.

But hey, we got a point, and showed amazing character. What a comeback!
