Hemel
Poor first half. These long balls are ultra-long so they’re not going to be accurate.
And what’s with doing EVERYTHING really quickly? Again, we don’t have the passing accuracy to be a counter attacking team.
When we’ve played well this year it’s been linking up in combinations. Play to our strengths. Grrrr.

A point would have been a fairer reflection on the game in my view. Neither side created that many clear cut chances but rub of the green went to Hemel. Holden was at fault for their first making a hash of a quick drop kick to start a counter attack, the ball falling to Ajayi who was quick to see Holden off his line and fired home from range. Kader hit the post when he should have found the target
one of very few threatening attacks in the first half. Hemel’ssecond took a large deflection off a defender leaving Holden stranded. Ince then had a good chance from close range but the shot was smothered and Innocent saw a shot shave the outside of the post. Silva gave us a lifeline with a late penalty only for Holden to give away another penalty within a minute. Fortunately Hemel missed the target but we simply ran out of time. Both sides played a very direct game. We lacked a final ball of quality and were restricted to half chances.

Jules' post match comments quite a bit more postive than I was expecting, although I guess we saw that trait at times last season too. The injuries are obviously weakening us greatly - probably 5 of our strongest players out at the moment and Jules mentioned that Atkinson, Ince and Innocent are also all not at full match fitness yet. Hopefully we can at least see some of the casualties reappearing soon and nip this little sequence of losees in the bud.

We’ve got to be careful in these interviews not to slip into Marc White mode where we say we should have won every game if not for a poor refereeing decision, a good save by their keeper, the pitch was too bumpy or a shot that just missed. The opposition could just as easily say they should have won by more if not for the same. It was an evenly matched game where didn’t take our chances and lost the initiative from an individual error. We have now lost five in a row and have two difficult away games at Hornchurch and Worthing to come. The mood in the camp will feel quite different if five turns into seven defeats. You want your best XI on the pitch for these games but injuries are mounting.

Unfortunately this is a modern trend in post-match manager interviews, and the embarrassing Marc White method seems to be a bit of a role model for many. Sometimes you lose because you simply aren't very good.Tony wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 7:32 am We’ve got to be careful in these interviews not to slip into Marc White mode where we say we should have won every game if not for a poor refereeing decision, a good save by their keeper, the pitch was too bumpy or a shot that just missed. I think it''s rare of Jules to make that sort of comment about officials so can allow him that. Plus it wasn't a rant as Mr White goes on but more measured.
However we do need to get back to being more clinical in both boxes as that has been our real undoing recently.
Do need to get those not fit back soon as, up front at least, we are well short. Against Hornchurch maybe stick Silva up front as he is a bit more physical than Kader and can fully expect the Essex lot to be big, strong, direct and nasty.

I bet Kader is one of those players who looks incredibly skilful in training but ultimately doesn't have the strength and presence during league games.

Rodari goals and assists are a big miss at the moment too
