Ince is starting which is very interesting given he didn’t come on on Saturday. How long will he last? Atkinson, Allsop and Parkinson also start.

Correction made above, Liam Hutt (new signing) starts.

Liam Hutt, young right back from Swindon Town, presumably a loanee. Was on loan at Weymouth last season.

That's weird isn't it. When we were crying out for an experienced player to come on during Saturday's flat and lacklustre second half, Ince was left warming the bench. Tonight, during a pretty meaningless cup competition, he starts. Very odd.

Lasted 34 minutes before going off. I doubt that was a tactical substitution. We are losing 1-0.

Now 2-0 down. Re Ince, as harsh as it sounds, think it's time to get rid.

My first half report:

A windswept Tithe Farm played host to this Middlesex Senior Cup, 2nd Round fixture. Alan Julian was in the dugout for Hampton, managing a much-changed side from Saturday. Credit to the hosts, a programme was produced and team sheets were made available for viewing. On the pitch, Luka Ziger was given the nod in goal, with James Holden having the evening off; a back three of academy lad Jack Griffin (to the right), Ben Parkinson (to the left) and Rohan Ince (in the centre), played behind Kai Cooper at left wing back and new signing Liam Hutt at right wing back. The centre of midfield was made up of Mike Atkinson and Callum O'Keeffe, with Eddie Allsopp just in front; the academy's Tyler Andrew-Flower and recent first team signing Finn McGreevy led the line.

Hampton's small travelling contingent were treated to a very open game in the early exchanges. Rohan Ince controlled the ball well for Hampton, showing composure to steer himself round some midfielders and play an intelligent ball through to new signing, Liam Hutt on the right, But Hutt's cross towards academy forward Tyler Andrew-Flower was easily dealt with by the defence.

Hampton enjoyed the better of possession during the first 20 minutes and were growing in confidence, without really creating too many openings. Jack Griffin played a long ball into the area towards Finn McGreevy in the 14th minute but there was a bit too much weight on it; and in the 16th minute Andrew-Flower controlled the ball, setting up Finn McGreevy for Hampton's first real shot, but he blasted it high over the bar. From almost the same position in the 21st minute, McGreevy struck the bar!

Hampton, sporting their royal blue third kit (or academy away kit!), attacked the clubhouse end in the first half with 11 travelling fans (and Pipo the dog!) behind the goal. As the half wore on the temperature dropped considerably, but the pattern of play continued with Hampton enjoying majority possession and continuing to gently probe the hosts.

There was a moment of panic in the 30th minute when O'Keeffe was suddenly caught in possession, with a Rayners Lane player through on goal, but his shot was scuffed wide and short. Two minutes later Rayners Lane hit the crossbar twice in quick succession with Ziger stranded! Rayners Lane then took the lead in the 33rd minute with Bradley Walsh netting a close-range header after Ziger parried a shot. Following the goal, academy midfielder Benjamin Egberts (#30) was subbed on for Hampton, replacing Rohan Ince, who, frustratingly, appeared to go off with an injury. Ince passed the Captain's armband to Atkinson.

Hampton were again passing confidently across the midfield without creating clear-cut chances. Then disaster struck as Benjamin Egberts gave the ball away, allowing Bradley Walsh once again to get onto the scoresheet, slotting past Ziger from an angle in the 44th minute. The temperature has really dropped and it's hard to type. I will try and get something out for the second half though.

Can only think tonight might have been a last chance saloon thing. Shame, but if he's injured again then time to cut our losses.

I guess we must have decided to finally test Ince in a low risk game. That is probably it for Ince I suspect. I understand that the injury was thought to be treatable but one appearance in two years rather suggests it wasn’t. With Atkinson back there seems little reason to continue the experiment. However, not sure what the contractual position is.
