The predictable defeat of Hampton by Amateur Cup Winners, Hendon, went according to the form book at Claremont Road. Hampton, 2-1 down from the first leg, surprised their hosts by bravely taking the game to them. In the second minute Farren volleyed over the bar from Markham’s free kick. John Swannell was then forced to dash off his line to block Sperling’s shot. Hampton kept themselves in the game until the 28th minute when Hendon scored, Minor cleared a John Baker header off his line but Alan Phillips sent the ball back in for Tony Bass to head the ball home. Hampton had one last chance after the interval but Sperling’s shot was blocked – after that it was all Hendon. Rod Haider scored in the 67th minute and then two minutes later Bobby Childs completed the scoring. In the end the gulf between a top-level Isthmian League side and an Athenian League Division 2 team was too great.
That's all folks, until we get to next season!
