THOSE WERE THE DAYS
28th October 2000
F A Cup 4th Qualifying Round

HRBFC 5 (Flitter, Holloway, Griffiths, Green, Williams) Worcester City 0 Att; 619

HRBFC ;-
Eric Talbot; Matt Flitter (Derek Simpson), Peter Wood, Nick Burton, Peter Barnsby, Jason Shaw, Gary Holloway, Dean Green (Ronnie Girvan), Warren Williams, Craig Maskell, Leroy Griffiths.
Unused Subs; Mark Russell, Martin Carter, Ashley Leenders.

A match that started with a minute’s silence for Paul Williams, Reserve Team Secretary ended in a tumult of noise as the Beavers swept past Worcester City to gain a first-ever place in the F A Cup 1st Round. Two minutes into the game and the referee awarded Hampton a corner (or should it have been a goal-kick?), Holloway played it short to Maskell who sent in a low cross that fell nicely to Flitter in front of goal, 1-0. Despite having a strong wind at their back it was Worcester who were having to defend and unable to get forward. Danny McDonnell was the busier of the two keepers, making saves from Williams and Griffiths. In the second half Hampton’s keeper Talbot made good use of the wind with several penetrating kicks upfield. In the 54th minute, Holloway scored with a shot into the far corner. Worcester, to their credit, kept up the pressure, Mark Owen and Michael Cotter failing to take their chances. In the 8oth minute Wood won the ball, found Maskell who slipped it to Griffiths, who shot home from close range. Hampton were not finished yet. Maskell was brought down by McDonnell, and instead of awarding the penalty, Referee James allowed the action to continue and Green ran in to fire into an empty net. The fifth goal came right at the end when Williams outwitted McDonnell and rounded him to finish the game on a high.
