THOSE WERE THE DAYS
22nd October 2002
Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division
HRBFC 1 (Riddell) Aldershot Town 3 Att; 705
HRBFC ;-
Andy Iga; Sam Okafor, Dean Berry, Gary McCracken (Ben Proudfoot 70’), Aiden O’Brien, Chris Rose, David Cross, Lee Riddell, David Ocquaye, Ashley Sestanovich, Dave Cory (Jody Yee 84’).
Unused Subs; Chris Bouchez, Dudley Gardner, Mark Royal.
Just days after being given the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’ Beavers’s manager, Ian McDonald must have been hoping for a turnaround in fortunes, however, the defeats kept piling up. There was certainly no luck going as the scoreline flattered the visitors, twice Aldershot had to clear their lines in a first half that they finished 2-0 up. Shots keeper, Nikki Bull had his work cut out to keep Hampton at bay, turning two efforts from Sestanovich away for corners. Aldershot’s opener had an element of luck, Iga was obscured by Jamie Taylor and didn’t see Martin Kuhl’s header until it flew past him, then Taylor scored when he looked to be in an offside position. Hampton got a goal back in the second half, after Sestanovich, having carried the ball for half the length of the pitch, passed to Cory, his shot beat Bull and looked to be going wide when Riddell followed up at the far post. Eight minutes from time, Aldershot secured the points with a scrambled effort by Adam Parker. The result left the Beavers at the bottom of the table, two weeks later McDonald’s tenure came to an end when he resigned as manager.
