Nor did the club in 1999

In response to the comment about the club name change in 1999, it is NOT true to say that there was no consultation. At that time and before the formation of the club as a Limited Company, the then members of the Members Club were required to vote on the name change from ‘Hampton’ to ‘Hampton & Richmond Borough’ at its AGM. I do not recall any great level of opposition at that time. Yes, the name can be a little long and unwieldy at times, however, the ‘Borough’ was deliberately included to reflect that Hampton was part of the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames, and the only ‘Senior’ association football club within the Borough.

I can also confirm that being a Members Club at the time, the members were asked to vote on the change of name. The motion passed, however I cannot recall whether any members at the meeting abstained or voted against, it was a long time ago. Being a Members Club at that time one was required to vote on everything, rule changes (including words, dots and commas - could get quite detailed), , election of the chairman, committee etc. A different era.

My apologies for a flippant remark that clearly was not true
