THOSE WERE THE DAYS
1st October 1996

F A Cup 2nd Qual Round Replay

Stansted 2 Hampton 1 (Cheshire) Att; 100

Hampton ;-
Mark Russell; Mark Munoz (Dave Porter), Darren Powell, Jim Wigmore (Kevin Duffell), Steve Cheshire, Dave Rattue, Peter Wood (Craig Reilly), Mark Wilson, Darren Smith, Danny Collyer, Robin Lewis.

Essex Senior League’s Stansted were making their first appearance in the F A Cups – and didn’t they do well! Three days earlier Stansted had led 2-0 at Beveree before Hampton got themselves a replay with two late goals by defenders, Powell and Wigmore. Unfortunately, the trip to the environs of Stansted Airport did not go particularly well. With much the same line-up Hampton should have won the game. Stansted showed some skill but plenty of determination. Stansted had two shots on target and both went in. Neal Harvey put Stansted in front on 34 minutes and they scored the winner ten minutes from time. In between Cheshire scored an equaliser before half-time, but even that was from a rebound off a defender’s attempted clearance.
Strange but true; Porter only made two substitute appearances, both in the two Stansted cup ties and both times, replacing Munoz!
