Is this the third game in a row we have conceded a goal in injury time? This suggests either a fitness issue which I doubt, or just a lack of experience to manage the game out. The squad is still thin compounded by several players that still are not available since the beginning of the season.

Will await a fuller report, but it seems we are playing ok but not getting the results. This is worrying, it would be far better if we were playing less well but picking up wins!
Will await the manager’s comments soon!

Apart from the last 15 minutes we played some of the best controlled football I have seen from a Hampton side in recent years. But inevitably the last minute penalty will dominate the post match assessment. We certainly looked tired and started to make some unforced errors which gave Tonbridge some hope when frankly they weren’t in the game for large swathes of it. Their best chances came from our errors and maybe they could have equalised earlier if their finishing had been better. I didn’t see the penalty clearly enough to judge if deserved or not. We certainly should have had one in the first half and there were big shouts for one for Tonbridge in the second half. The ref generally made some strange decisions all game. Clearly we need to be better at game management at the death. Maybe used a couple more subs to give fresher legs or add to the back line. We are a very small side defensively and noticeably we stopped putting corners straight into the box in the second half preferring to work it short. Babajide is not an out and out CF but is so mobile and difficult to play against we must find away of exploiting his talent. The players throughout were excellent and gave everything. Vilhete’s goal was great team interplay with a stunning finish but we still need to work on making more from our possession when it comes to the 18 yard box.

Thanks for the report Tony, think it confirms much of what has been noted already. Wonder if steps can be taken to remedy these faults, before it gets too serious.
On the injuries front, Campbell was not in the squad today but was going through a workout pre match. Hunt was there but not participating. Looked a rather lonely figure. Cheadle nowhere to be seen. Critchlow, Gray and Wiltshire were on the bench but only Gray got minutes. Sorondo and Atkinson did the full 90 minutes. Williams filled in at LB but is much better used further forward. The LB we signed a couple weeks back hasn’t got any minutes so far and not in the squad today , neither was Brissett who I didn’t spot either.
I think we need more players fit more regularly to take the pressure off those who are starting every game. Alan Julian might need to churn the squad a little to see if we can sign another CB or perhaps on loan. Fernandez is sitting on Eastleigh’s bench unused most games.Shepperton Supporter wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:12 pm Thanks for the report Tony, think it confirms much of what has been noted already.
