GM Vauxhall Conference Fisher Athletic, managed by the legendary Malcolm Allison, came to Beveree and were surprisingly beaten by the Division 1 Isthmian League outfit. Hampton stormed into a 2-1 lead, the first coming in the 4th minute to set the tone for the game. Dickenson played an inch perfect ball through the Fisher back four, to send Hatcher away down the right, his low cross was met by Gill, whose shot looped up off keeper Wells with Cheshire following up, heading in at the far post. Hampton quickly scored a second eight minutes later, a Hatcher free-kick was met by Gill who, in oceans of space, had time to look, turn and fire inside the far post. Fisher struck back two minutes later when Leroy Ambrose took advantage of a poor clearance. Twice Jason Lee, on loan from Charlton Athletic, went close, forcing Hampton’s young keeper Hook into action. Hampton’s third goal came at the end of an entertaining first half, Cheshire’s pass enabled Kuhne to beat Fisher’s off-side trap and he outstripped the defenders, rounded Wells and coolly slipped it past him. Cue remonstrations from Allison on the far side of the pitch, but all to no avail. Hampton held on to their lead for the second half, and a worthy victory.
