THOSE WERE THE DAYS
1st September 1973
Isthmian League (Rothmans) Division 2

Dagenham 4 Hampton 0 Att; 1200

Hampton ;-
Chris Page; Alan Earl, Ken Reed, Steve Markham, Peter Minor, Brian Crandley (Steve Medwin), Micky Cook, Ted Yorke, Johnny Eales, Phil Sperling, Jim Baptie.

Hampton’s winning start to life in the Isthmian League (2 games, 2 wins), came to a juddering stop at the hands of Dagenham (who would win the Division 2 title later that season). Hampton conceded two goals in each half but still remained reasonably competitive. Hampton went behind early to an own goal by Reed, but had three good chances to get on the scoresheet but Baptie was unable to convert any of them. Dagenham went 2 up when Page was unable to hold on to a George Brooks shot, Peter Twigg tapping the ball home. Within seconds of the second half starting Ken Gray made it 3-0, seizing on an error by Crandley. Hampton brought on Medwin for Crandley and for a time, threatened a reply with a Sperling effort, Baptie hitting a post and Yorke shooting wide. With time running out John Ford headed in Dagenham’s fourth.
