ALAN DEVONSHIRE RUNS IN THE EPSOM DERBY
Well, a horse did anyway! This happened whilst Devo was manager of Hampton & Richmond Borough.
A horse named after Alan Devonshire ran in the 2008 Epsom Derby. Russell Trew named his horse after his favourite player, having bought the horse in 2006. The horse qualified for the Derby by finishing fourth in a race at Lingfield Park in May.
Starting at 100/1, the horse finished 13th out of a field of 16.
The Derby, of course is a sprint of 1 mile, four furlongs & 10 yards. Devo was always more of a ‘stayer’ rather than a ‘sprinter’ so perhaps Mr Strew should have bought and named a National Hunt horse!
