Adam asked how the current squad compares to last season. I think most folk would say that overall it is weaker.
Jules has had to assemble a squad with a reduced budget and time will tell how successful he has been. The first half a dozen results might well set the tone for this coming season.

Why do we persist with players who are obviously injury prone and and have been absent from the team for long periods of time. We are a small club so can't afford to be carrying players who will probably not play for us again. Do we never cancel any players contract?

With regard to the club protecting itself when players are injured. It is a fine line of endeavouring to protect the club but also giving a player some reassurance that, if they get a serious injury, which affects their income from their non football job a measure of income is guaranteed. We are at probably at the highest level in the pyramid where not all players are under contract.
Contracts between a player and the club just cannot be broken because of injuries. Players with injury records might not be given a contract initially so as to protect the club.

It always amazes me when clubs have donations or whip rounds for injured players,
why not take out the insurance policy to cover this (not a knock at Hampton) so many clubs AND players don't protect themselves by paying a small weekly amount to cover themselves.
Madness.
Like not insuring your car or house, not taking out insurance to cover them playing football in case of injury is just crazy.

The answer to that is that contracts are usually pretty watertight. Surely you can only cancel one if the player agrees to it?

It’s a contract of employment so can only be cancelled if a player breaches its terms. Unless specifically agreed, being injured would not be a breach so players would continue to be paid. There was a fair bit of controversy last year when the National League announced they would be introducing FA approved contracts in line with employment law sick pay provisions which would have allowed clubs to terminate contracts if there was a long term injury or reduce wages to £99.35 per week if still injured after a period of weeks (6 weeks at Step 2). I believe that the NL backtracked on this and contracts have reverted to previous terms re Sick Pay unless otherwise negotiated with the player.

Very, especially considering he put a tweet out last Monday saying he was ready for the season ahead.

Suspect there has been some falling out. I only saw a couple of halves from Josh but thought he looked the weakest of the signings from the lower divisions, nothing like previously advertised. We are a bit overstocked on attacking wide players so perhaps chances somewhat limited for him.

Would suspect that he was going to be mainly on the bench and perhaps got an offer from a club lower down the pyramid. Might free up a little cash?

Hope we can get a refund on the No. 11 shirts with his name on the back we just took delivery of.
