THOSE WERE THE DAYS
22nd January 1994
Isthmian League (Diadora) Division 2
Rainham Town 0 Hampton 3
Prior, Nolan, Poffley (p)

Scott Tarr; Tim Hollands, Gary Cambridge (Ian O’Brien), David Scott, Steve Cheshire, Joe Rayfield, Mark Harper, Tony Nolan, Nathan Poffley (Steve Lewington), David Prior, Jim Wigmore.

Three second half goals disposed of struggling Rainham Town and gave Hampton their fifth successive away win in the league. At the half time interval, Hampton didn’t look at all convincing however in the second half it all seemed to click for the Beavers. In the 49th minute Prior latched on to Nolan’s through ball and aimed his shot past keeper Simon Wright into the far corner. Hampton went further ahead when Nolan scored his first goal in senior football, in the 56th minute. Ten minutes later Poffley won himself a penalty and electing to take it himself, coolly despatched the spot kick. More chances came Hampton’s way, Harper shot just wide and Cheshire hit the bar. Despite the run of away victories, Hampton were only in 9th place and would slowly slide back to 18th place by the end of the season.
