Does anyone know why we are not playing this Tuesday evening while there is close to a full fixture programme in the division?

One would have thought we would be playing especially with the number of home games left to play / recent postponements,

We were originally down to play Dartford but the fixture was brought forward when we both went out the FA Cup early.

Are you on the payroll too.

That's the second time in two days you've tried to encourage people to go down there.

Of course there are other places to find a game on Tuesday. Hartley Witney are playing Leatherhead.

Tonight’s and yesterday’s results push us down to fifth place. Must win those games in hand as mid-table teams are also pushing upwards.

My scribblings...

It was a relatively mild evening as Hampton took to a muddy pitch with very light rain in the air. Hampton opted for Ben Seymour up top supported by Connor Kurran-Browne, new goalkeeper Ayman Azaze started ahead of Alan Julian who was nevertheless part of the pre-match warm-up, but Adam Desbois was not in attendance. A defensive trio of Dean Inman, Luis Fernandez and Isaac Pitblado and a busy midfield with Dom Revan on the right; Deadfield, Hunt, Gray and Hall. Hampton took the lead in the 18th minute, Deadfield broke through on the left and found himself taking on the goalkeeper, but kept his head and squared to Seymour for a tap in to an empty net. A few minutes later another move along the left saw Pitblado set up Rob Hall who turned and shot, but Ashford’s trialist goalkeeper got down low to save. It didn’t take long for the second goal to come, in the 25th minute Jake Gray set up Deadfield whose shot took a deflection off the goalkeeper and trickled over the line. Early Hampton pressure abated as the half went on and the match was a fairly scrappy affair, the bobbly surface didn’t make for great passing football. The other chance of the half was in the 44th minute, Connor Kurran-Browne did well to keep possession around the ‘D’ with some strong tackles flying in, he laid the ball out to Gray whose pass inside was deliberately avoided by Rob Hall, who didn’t realise it was an Ashford defender behind him.

No subs in the first half but for the second half a much-changed Hampton team emerged with only Azaze, Inman, Hunt and Hall remaining from the first half. Inman had taken the Captain’s armband from Gray. The second half followed the first in that Hampton had lots of early chances, with Alfy Whittingham squandering a few good opportunities up front. James Comley made an appearance and one of his first acts in the 78th minute was to give away a penalty after a robost challenge, much to the entertainment of the Hampton bench who roared with laughter at the example set by their coach! Ayman Azaze got down low to his left and saved it the spot kick, which was taken by Ashford’s Jack Smith.

Notes
This hastily arranged mid-season friendly was only announced on club social media on the morning of the fixture (it scuppered my plans to attend Bedfont vs Woodley United at the Orchard)! Hampton wore their all-white 2023/24 kit. Ashford Town (Middx) wore all royal blue. My headcount for the attendance was 38. Hampton’s injured Jordan Thomas watched from the stands. The match officials were provided by Ashford. A very helpful chap on the turnstile wrote down Ashford’s line-up for me and I returned the favour for Hampton’s. In the first half Hampton were shooting towards the industrial estate. I know the identity of Hampton's trialist #33 but holding back as don't know if the club want it publicised. James Comley wore #18 although there was no name on his shirt. Ashford’s young trialist goalkeeper, Archie Cunningham, told me it was his first game for their club and he didn’t know any of the outfield players!
