THOSE WERE THE DAYS
September 9th 1995
F A Cup 1st Qualifying Round
Hampton 1 Staines Town 2 Att; 150
Bayliss

Mark Russell; Brian Bere, Jon Reilly, Lyndon Buckwell, Steve Cheshire, Warren Bayliss (Jimmy Brown), Lee Thornton (Simon Rollison), Dave Rattue, Tony Calvert, Darren Smith, Danny Lavender.
Unused Sub; Tony Coombe

Local rivals, Hampton and Staines Town met for the first time in the F A Cup and it was the ‘Swans’ who came out on top. Staines took the lead in the 19th minute, Jim Williams setting free Obinna Ulasi (who would, some years later, join the Beavers). Staines keeper, Trent Phillips saved well from debutant, Calvert, and then from Cheshire. Phil Grainger made space for himself and added to the lead on 35 minutes. Hampton pulled one back in the 58th minute when Phillips dropped the ball at the feet of Bayliss. Hampton went for the equaliser, a long-range effort was saved by Phillips and, late on, Calvert shot wide from a good position, but the Beavers couldn’t salvage a replay.
