THOSE WERE THE DAYS
April 29th 1995
Isthmian League (Diadora) Division 2

Hampton 2 Hungerford Town 1
McCoy, Smith

Mark Russell; Kevin Duffell, Steve Liles (John Wood), Lyndon Buckwell, Steve Cheshire, David Crook, Jon Reilly, Dave Rattue, Darren Smith, Lee Thornton (Abu Kamara), Trevor McCoy.

Despite extending their unbeaten run to nine games, Hampton was destined to fall short in their hunt for promotion. Hungerford took the lead through their goalkeeper (!) Paul Thompson scored from the penalty spot after Buckwell was penalised. McCoy equalised a minute into the second half. Smith, having provided the header for the equaliser, poked the winner in from close range.

This was presumably under Chick Botley's management? I remember us often being quite hard to beat at that time but not always capable of finishing other teams off ruthlessly enough. Always looked quite well organised though, Chesh would have seen to that in midfield.

Yes, it was Chick's first season in charge.
