HRBFC Manager, Alan Devonshire, made a triumphant return to his former club when he guided the Beavers to a win over Maidenhead United. Midway through the first half Godfrey finished off a four player move with a low drive. The home keeper was the busier, making save after save to keep Hampton out, Hodges managed to get in amongst the defenders and headed Beavers into a 2-0 half-time lead. The second half was a different story as Hampton lost their shape. In the 66th minute, following a corner, Manny Williams scrambled the ball in but that was the only time that Hampton’s defences were breached. It was their eighth away of the season, so far.
Incidentally, the Magpies, at that time, had a complex about playing at home and had tried to change the mindset by travelling on a coach to York Road – didn’t work!
