THOSE WERE THE DAYS
February 13th 1988
Isthmian (Vauxhall-Opel) League; Division 1

Hampton 5 Stevenage Borough 1 Att; 142
Walkes, Harmsworth, Hollands, Shafique, Nelson

Definitely a look back into the archives with this astonishing scoreline – Stevenage were near bottom, but no one expected a shot-shy Hampton to go nap.

Chris Vagg; Gary Cambridge, Gary Gerson, Tim Hollands, Jim Wigmore, Mark Harmsworth (Horace Nelson), Sean O’Connell, Ricky Walkes, Sean Rice, Zarak Shafique (Paul Duncalfe).

In fact, Hampton trailed after 15 minutes, but on the half-hour Walkes scored to break a 425 minute goal drought, converting a Rice cross. Two more before half time through a Harmsworth 30-yard thunderbolt (according to the reporter), followed by a Hollands header at the far post. A minute into the second half, Shafique scores with a header from a Rice cross. Eight minutes from time and a simple side-foot from Nelson completed a good afternoon’s work, Rice yet again the provider.
A week later the Beavers went on to complete the league double with a 1-0 away win.

Tim Hollands; 700 plus games, 54 goals, our record appearance holder 1977-1995
