THOSE WERE THE DAYS
February 7th 2017
National League (Vanarama) South
HRBFC 2 Gosport Borough 2 (Att; 369)
Culley, Pavey

Gosport Borough’s first, and to date, only visit to Beveree, ended in a 2-2 draw.

Sam Howes; Leon Solomon, Josh Casey, Kevin Murphy, Nathan Collier, Harold Odametey, Jerome Federico (Duncan Culley, 46’), Wesley Fonguck, Alfie Pavey, Christian Jolley, Brendan Kiernan.
Unused subs; Tom Jelley, Joe Hicks, Michael Kamara & Billy Bishop.

Beavers started brightly but unexpectedly went behind in the 21st minute. It took the introduction of Duncan Culley at half time to give home supporters hope. Culley delivered from a Casey corner, heading in at the far post, on the hour mark. Minutes later, Pavey, scored from the penalty spot but the lead was destined not to last. With less than twenty minutes to go Gosport’s Tony Lee scored his second of the game, 2-2. Despite having all the possession and pressure the Beavers couldn’t find that third winning goal, much to Manager Alan Dowson’s frustration.

A sad postscript to the game was the announcement the next morning of the passing of Alan Simpson OBE, Club President for 50 years, plunging the club into deepest mourning.
