He's featured heavily in pre season and played well at Chertsey on saturday. Have we signed him? Or is he still under contract though can't believe we gave him a 2 yr deal. Or is he trialing ? Anyone know?

Being given pre-season to show what he can do. If he performs well enough, he will be retained for the actual season. I will definitely say this pre-season we've seen a far better player than we ever saw last year.

That's setting a seriously low bar...we hardly saw anything of him at all last season!

I’d like to think he will pay us back for last season by coming through as a regular member of the squad. He has done the minutes so far but feels as if he is still playing within himself. There is no point in having him as an also ran occasional midfielder come CB as you can get someone else to do that at probably lower cost. You really want to see him influencing play as a starter given his experience.

That's what I thought on the couple of occasions I've seen him in pre-season. Unless he's an influential senior member of the squad who can show consistent high level performance there isn't really much point in having him. Recovering from serious injury isn't just about recovering physically, you have to really believe your injury has healed sufficiently to stand up to being fully tested.

To be fair to him if he is playing within himself in the friendlies but staying fit, getting stronger and improving game on game then that would seem ok. Obviously his worth (or otherwise) will be seen after a few weeks of the league season but I would hope he would only be on some form of pay-as-you-play contract.

That's the obvious solution but the player might not agree to that if he feels he can get a contract elsewhere. The other option is to sign on a non contract basis.

There's definitely a solid player in there based on what I've seen. Really hope he can become a regular feature in the squad.

Well if he did choose to walk away after we had stood by him last season and given him opportunities to get match fit then we would probably be best off without him but hopefully that won't be the case.

He was signed to have a major impact on an inexperienced side, although aware appearances might be limited by previous injury issues, not unlike RGC. Arguably, we now have a much stronger squad all round so the strategic need to take a risk on his fitness is no longer there. So I would have thought that we need him to be back to somewhere near his former self pretty quickly if we are going to sign him longer term.
