One of those games when Hampton seemed to be in full control and then weren’t and were in danger of throwing a win away. Maskell could have put Hampton ahead in the first minute but his curling shot beat Andy Harris, but not the bar. Carshalton went straight upfield and Pace sent a low shot past Talbot. Over the next twenty or so minutes Hampton wated chance after chance. Somehow Carshalton were still ahead at half-time. In the 48th minute Maskell lashed a shot over the bar but then quickly made amends when he nodded in Griffith’s lobbed pass. Carshalton responded again as Brodrick headed in from a corner. Hampton kept coming forward, substitute Manuella lobbed the ball in for Holloway to beat the offside trap, Griffiths on hand to apply the finish 2-2. Williams, on for Houghton gave Hampton more pace down the right. Green, who had missed chances in the first half now found his scoring boots, putting Hampton ahead. It was left to a youngster, Asamoah, to make the win safe after Griffiths set up the chance for him, 4-2. Asamoah was definitely a player that Hampton let slip through the net, he went on to play for a number of teams, including Northampton Town, Shrewsbury Town, Carlisle United amongst others. Matt Elverson who would play over 100 games for the Beavers was in the Carshalton team.

Asamoah was terrific, a really.tough and skilful player. Steve Cordery, manager at the time, for some reason didn't see it and only used him very sparingly. In fairness however, we did have Griffiths and Maskell up front, two of Hampton's all time greats...
