THOSE WERE THE DAYS
20th September 2008
Football Conference (Blue Square) South
Havant & Waterlooville 1 (Watkins 60’) HRBFC 4 (Wright 16’, Hodges 47’, Scarborough 75’, R Lake 78’) Att; 501
HRBFC;-
Matt Lovett; Marcello Fernandes, Craig Tanner (Ryan Lake, 60’), Orlando Jeffrey, John Scarborough, Dean Wells, Robbie Kember, Francis Quarm, Ian Hodges, Ben Wright (Elliott Brathwaite, 61’), Barrie Matthews.
Unused Subs; Lawrence Yaku, Chris Robinson
Ah, yes! The Battle of Westleigh Park.
Both teams reduced to 9 and a second successive win for the Beavers at Havant. The game itself was a lively, physical encounter with the home bench bending Referee Lugg’s ear at every opportunity. Wright opened the scoring, latching on to a loose ball and, without a moment’s thought, lashed it in from twenty yards. The bookings then started to mount up. With less than a minute played in the second half, the Beavers went 2 up. A Matthews corner got the slightest touch from Hodges (well, he claimed it anyway). Havant’s had a great chance in the 55th minute, Lovett gratefully falling onto the ball after it had pinged around for fully thirty seconds. Watkins then scored on the hour mark, with a shot that just squeezed inside the post. Tanner and Watkins then had a coming together and the Refereeing Officials had a battle on their hands. When peace was restored, Havant’s Watkins and Jake Conroy along with Jeffrey and Kember were dismissed. Hampton quickly killed the game off, Scarborough (Beavers best player) and Lake supplying the goals.
