THOSE WERE THE DAYS
14th September 1993
F A Cup 1st Qualifying Round Replay
Hampton 1 (D Smith 90’) Haringey Borough 2 (P Smith 35’, Burke 57’) 2 Att; 155
Hampton;-
Scott Tarr; Ian O’Brien (Darren Smith), Joe Rayfield, Malcolm Dickenson, Steve Cheshire, Tim Hollands (Mick Beadle), Mark Harper, Garry Cope, Scott Corbett, Jason Fenton, Brian Bere.
Unused Sub; Harvey Stillman (GK)
Haringey Borough;-
Brian Burke; Ian Cooper, Cahil Ryan, Lee Maddison, K Henry, Peter Smith, D Chrysocu, L Rhodes, David Burke, C Johnson, C Ladd.
Subs; G Fossett, S Saldirai.
Three days earlier, Haringey and Hampton had drawn 0-0 in the F A Cup 1st Qualifying Round. At stake in the replay was a home draw against Hornchurch. Poor finishing had cost Hampton a chance of progressing the first time and the same problems with scoring would again come to the fore. A case of; if only Hollands had converted a good chance in the 5th minute; if only Bere’s far post header, had been on target, before the break; or, if only, Corbett’s long-range effort had dipped under the bar. As it was, Peter Smith gave the visitors the lead in the 35th minute, the second coming twelve minutes after the interval, thanks to a Burke header. Indeed, the only on-target effort was in injury time at the end of the 90, Darren Smith scoring a consolation goal. Too little, too late.
Haringey would lose 3-0 to Hornchurch in the next round.
