THOSE WERE THE DAYS
17h May 1969
Hounslow Charity Cup Final
Hounslow 2 (Fancett, Baker) Hampton 3 (King (p), Allen, Myers)

Hounslow;-
Mickey Byrne; Alan Fine, D Gale, K Foskett, Terry Keen, G Boulter, G Jones, Bobby Turner, Terry Fancett, Baker, Bloom.
Sub; Clarke.

Hampton;-
Joe Andrews; Alan Earl, Dave Johnson, Keith Hanna, Graham Belcher, Peter Dove, Dave King, Micky Roach, Brian Myers, Peter Allen, Arthur Rowlands.
Sub; Peter Horne

A dodgy penalty helped Hampton retain the Hounslow Charity Cup at Denbigh Road (a ground sadly lost to non-league football). Two evenly matched teams traded chances until the award of a penalty in the 21st minute. King drove into the penalty area with Bobby Turner in close attendance, suddenly King pitched forward and went down. Referee Reg Payne awarded a penalty for a challenge that not even Hampton fans thought was worthy of a foul. Undeterred, King despatched the penalty. Hampton went further ahead when Allen followed up Roach’s effort that had rebounded back off an upright. A few minutes later Hounslow were back in the game. Turner, down the middle, found Jones in a good position, however he slipped the ball to Terry Fancett whose shot hit the inside of the post and into the net. The final two goals came right at the end of the match. Hampton won a free-kick which was lifted into Myers who, five yards out, headed past Byrne. Hounslow responded straight from the kick off, Fancett setting up Baker for a shot into the left-hand corner.

Interesting how long the season went on in those days. It might have been in part that so many of the clubs in our league didn’t have floodlights?

Hi - was this the "Hounslow Hospital Cup" or a separate competition? Thanks!
