That was tough. Maidenhead were good. Very good.
But, to be honest, it was a case of Yesterday's Football vs Today's Football.
They had great movement, interchanging of positions to confuse us, short passes designed to drag us around.
We were old-fashioned, hurried long balls down channels leading to 20/80 balls.
And their number 23 caused havoc. But what was worrying was that we didn't do anything about it. From a few minutes in it was obvious that this guy was going to roam where he liked, in between the lines, on the wings, and that he was good, very good. But we didn't adapt, didn't put someone on him.
Oh well. Onwards and upwards.

Agree Maidenhead were probably the best team I have seen at the Bev this season but we didn't help ourselves conceding a poor goal in the 12th minute after Rowley fumbled the ball to Barrett for a close range finish. We rarely come back after conceding the first goal and Popoola's screamer into the top corner after 19 mins probably killed the game. We should have done better failing to make tackles in the centre of the park. Umerah's 52nd min header certainly did finish off any hope. Atkinson then got a straight red for a high tackle and Maidenhead could easily have scored a couple more.In truth, we were never in the game and although Silva's well taken goal in the 81st minute gave some respectability to the final scoreline it was one of only three attempts on target all afternoon. A lot for Dowse to ponder before Maidstone next week. The real area of weakness is midfield where we lack the legs or the guile to play through teams or close down play. We therefore were forced long but Maidenhead's defence had little problem coping.
Definitely not what we hoped for today and whilst we shouldn't expect miracles in a few days, Dowse will have plenty to think about .
