THOSE WERE THE DAYS
27th February 1991
London Challenge Cup Quarter Final
Collier Row 0 Hampton 1 (Kuhne pen)

Lee Orkney; Paul Lucas, Mark Joyner, Erik Kajdi, Gary Morley (Brian Bere), Dave Rattue, Mike Dalton, Gary Gerson, Martin Willis, Steve Kuhne, Ricky Walkes.
Unused sub; Gary Cope

This game was played in a continuous downpour with both sides having to adapt to difficult conditions. Hampton generally had the better of the play and created plenty of chances. With just a few minutes of the ninety left it looked like the supporters (and players) were going to have to weather another thirty drenching minutes until a last gasp goal settled matters. Rattue’s free kick set Walkes off on another run through the muddy Collier Row penalty area, he passed two defenders before being brought down by a third. Kuhne, one of the coolest (and probably one of the wettest) players on the pitch, confidently struck the ball past Marc Baker.
Hampton would lose at home to Carshalton Athletic in the Semi-Final, 1-0, on 1st May.

And Carshalton went on to beat Welling 4.2 in the final.

I have a friend I went to deaf boarding school with in the early 1970s.

Funnily enough his name is on the Hampton fc teamsheet!

Of course it could be someone else with the same name?!
