THOSE WERE THE DAYS
21st February 1987
Isthmian (Vauxhall-Opel) League Division 1
Stevenage Borough 0 Hampton 3 (Nelson 2, Woollard) Att; 224

Paul Riley; Gary Gerson, Bobby Green, Gary Cambridge, Tim Hollands, Sean O’Connell, Sean Rice, Tarquin Woollard, Horace Nelson, Lee Mooney, Zarak Shafique.
Subs; Frank Hanafin, Steve Rogers

Hampton had the wind in their favour in the first half and hoped to capitalise on a draw at home to Stevenage just seven days earlier, thanks to a Nelson goal.
Mooney almost got Hampton off to a great start but miskicked in front of an open goal. Shafique also had two good opportunities in a goalless first half. Playing against the wind seemed to suit Hampton better but they were fortunate not to concede a goal when Chris Myer’s thunderous drive came back off the underside of the crossbar. In the 74th minute Hampton took the lead. Rice crossed from the right, Nelson heading in past Gallagher. Rice was the provider for the second goal a few minutes later, his weaving run opened up a chance for Woollard to drive the ball into the top corner. Hampton’s third goal came in the 89th minute and it was Nelson, who seemed to enjoy scoring against Stevenage, lifting the ball over the spreadeagled keeper.
