John Swannell passed away this week. John played between the sticks 65 times for the England Amateur team. Better known for making almost 600 appearances for Hendon, John actually started out with Hampton in the South West Middlesex League in 1955/56 at the age of 16, his father Ted was a member of the Committee.

Sad news I am a distant relation to him and his brother on my mother’s side.

Team List for the game played on 14th April 1956, away to Sunbury British Legion, 6-1 win. Duddy & Dowse scored two of the goals.

Sad news indeed. We only got to see him at the very start of his career but someone we can be proud to have been associated with.
