THOSE WERE THE DAYS
October 27th 2015
Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division
Wingate & Finchley 1 HRBFC 3 Att; 129
Kiernan 2, Moone

Mark Smith; Michael Kamara, Kieran Murphy, Eddie Hutchinson, Moussa Diarra, Harry Taylor, Brendan Kiernan, Charlie Moone, Nicke Kabamba (Dean Sinclair,52’), Josh Casey, Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick (Tom Jelley, 88’).

Unused subs; Richard Pacquette, Jerome Federico, Seb Brown.

Heavy traffic on the way round the North Circular, caused Alan Dowson to make some late changes to his team, however the disruption made little difference to the result. On 18 minutes Kiernan spun and hit a precise shot past Wingate keeper, Jack Metcalfe. The home side equalised a minute before half time, Ahmet Rifat heading in from Tommy Tejan-Sie’s cross. Beavers went ahead in the 68th minute when Moone, receiving a long free-kick from Smith, struck from 12 yards. Kiernan scored his second, and Hampton’s third, thanks to Taylor’s forceful run, beating three midfield players. Kiernan should have had a third but he had his penalty saved after Moone had been upended.
I particularly recall this game because of the excellent home-made soup on offer from the ladies in the catering point!
