THOSE WERE THE DAYS
May 8th 1973
Middlesex Charity Cup Final
Hampton 0 Hayes 1

Hampton; Chris Page; Alan Earl, Ken Reed, Steve Markham, Peter Minor, Ian Wenlock, Peter Allen (Peter Farren), Ted Yorke, Roy Cutler, Johnny Eales, Phil Sperling.

Hayes; Raine; Kent, O’Sullivan, Hatt, Thomas, Neville, Hartridge, Drabwell, Robin Friday, Amos, Wilks.
Sub; Roberts.

Having beaten Hampton, the previous season in the final, Hayes repeated the dose, with the same score, 1-0. Hayes contained the Hampton forwards and had a goal disallowed after 5 minutes. Hampton made life difficult for Hayes but eventually the Isthmian League team broke through in the 74th minute with an interchange between Drabwell and Friday who lobbed the ball to the far post for Drabwell to volley home. Hayes collecting the trophy for the third successive season.
