THOSE WERE THE DAYS
7th October 2006

AFC Wimbledon 0 HRBFC 1 (Yaku) Att; 2,529

HRBFC ;-
Matt Lovett; Graham Harper, Ryan Lake, Matt Elverson, Marcello Fernandes, Dean Wells, Alan Inns, Lawrence Yaku, Ian Hodges (Andy Cook,85’), Barrie Matthews (Dudley Gardner,80’), Kelvin McIntosh.
Unused subs; Yindom Yeboah, Glenn Harris, Elliott Godfrey.

There was something about playing AFC Wimbledon that brought out the best in the Beavers, despite not having won a game since 2nd September, they turned up and, again, beat the Dons on their own patch. HRBFC’s manager, Alan Devonshire, turned to the experienced Elverson to shore up a porous defence and the change worked a treat. After a shaky start by Hampton, the Beavers were glad to see the back of Scott Curley who was substituted off after 20 minutes after an early booking and another challenge that could have seen a second card. Byron Bubb went close for the Dons but his header was cleared off the line. Just before half-time home keeper, Andy Little was almost caught out by a Matthews 20-yard lob. Early in the second half Little dived to stop a Harper drive. 70 minutes and the Beavers grabbed the lead, Little failed to hold on to a Hodges shot, and Yaku was on hand to poach a goal. 1-0 up there was no way back for the home side. Hampton, Don ‘em again.

They never beat us in a competitive game and my goodness it irritated them!
