THOSE WERE THE DAYS
25th September 1982
Isthmian (Servowarm) League Division 1
Hampton 2 (Heselden, Shodeinde) Wembley 0

Hampton ;-
Paul Riley; Clive Marich, Peter Bartlett, Richard Smith, Steve Smith, Mark Cobb, Perry Tunesi, Peter Shodeinde, Mick Heselden, Rupert Jones, Tim Hollands.
Sub; Brian Lake

Wembley;-
Tony Sambridge; Ian Whitehead, Dave Hatton, Gary Fowles, Pat Lakey, Spud Murphy, Ray Duffy (Tony O’Driscoll, 75’), Tony Waugh, Andy McConigle, G West, Charlie Johnson.

Wembley’s visit to Hampton did not get off to a god start. Wembley’s keeper, Tony Sambridge, was hurt in a collision after 13 minutes and spent the rest of the game limping. Wembley were forced to defend deep in order to protect their injured keeper. Samridge was unable to come for crosses, however he managed a smart save from a Heselden effort. Riley was called into action in the 40th minute to save a fierce shot from Charlie Johnson. Four minutes into the second half, Hampton’s pressure paid off. Following a corner, Gary Fowles cleared off the line but Heselden was on hand to head the ball home. Seven minutes later and it was 2-0, a neat move was finished off by Shodeinde. Wembley seemed to have pulled a goal back, late on, but Johnson’s effort was disallowed for offside.

Really enjoyed this era, lots of great memories. Shodeinde was a formidable striker.
