Hampton had ex-England forward, Tony Currie, shown in the match day programme as appearing for Chesham United. However, despite playing in the previous five games for the visitors, he did not take his place in the team, having already moved on (having come back to the UK, from Canada). Regardless of that Chesham’s Cordice made an effective replacement. Chesham did, however, have Tony’s brother, Paul in the team. As for the game itself, Hampton seemed to be out of sorts. Wayward passes and off-target shots were the order of the day. Hampton’s best chance to score came after 15 minutes when Carlisle was almost beaten by Smith but Bennett cleared off the line. Cordice, Morrissy and Currie were making all the running for the visitors and it was no real surprise when ten minutes into the second half that Chesham took the lead. Peter Holmes rose high in the air to head home Currie’s corner.
