Hampton’s winning start to the season ended in the third game, with a home defeat to Barton Rovers. Already missing a number of first team players, the situation was worsened when Biggins was sent off in the first half. Hampton got off to a good start when they took a 7th minute lead. Rattue’s corner was delicately glanced home by Pearce past keeper Gary Turner. In the 31st minute Russell parried a shot by Danny Howell, but couldn’t prevent Tony McNally sliding the ball home. The visitors took the lead in the 53rd minute and had a possible third goal disallowed late in the second half.
