Hampton created the first chance but Hutchinson’s looping header bounced off the crossbar. On the excellent pitch, the Shots soon started to impose themselves. Brown, on top form, pushed aside a fierce shot from Jake Gallagher away. Brown then denied Charlie Walker on several occasions. Eventually five minutes before half time, Aldershot scored through Jim Stevenson, however, there was still time for Brown to deny Walker, yet again. The second half was as, per usual, disjointed by the various substitutions. Hampton were almost gifted a goal ten minutes from time when Smith fluffed a goal kick but Rose was unable to take advantage and the ball was fumbled away for a corner.
