Not a great Middlesex Charity Cup Final for Hampton who were well beaten and ended up with nine players, having two sent off. Tutt was sent off for two cautions, Smith was sent off for lashing out at Youssef Sakhraoul, four other players were booked and after the game Hampton Manager Chick Botley got himself an appointment with the Middlesex FA for comments made about Referee Robinson – everything that could go wrong, did. As for the football; Guliano Grazioli put Wembley ahead in the 28th minute, Smith, Wood and McCoy all had chances to equalise but Wembley doubled their lead in the 39th minute, Charlie Flaherty deftly heading home a Robert Holingdale corner. In the second half, Steve Daly had two shots cleared off the line before Tutt was sent off midway through the half, Smith joining him in injury time. Hampton’s pain continued right up to the last few seconds of the game as a penalty awarded for handball saw keeper, Jeff Fanner, leap across to save Duffell’s effort, as Wembley waltzed off with the trophy.
